The 1st Sikkim Open International Karate Championship started here at the Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium today with the Gyalshing Bermiok MLA, LN Sharma, declaring the championship open.
More than 700 karatekas from Nepal, Bhutan and Japan apart from different parts of India are participating in the championship being organised by the Sikkim State Karate-Do Association [SSKA].
The inaugural session was followed by events of the championship in sub-junior, cadet and junior boys and girls and senior men and women categories.
The closing ceremony of the two-day long championship is scheduled for Thursday evening.
