The valedictory function of the 25th State Open Table Tennis Championship 2023 was held here at indoor gymnasium of Paljor Stadium on 10 September. Ingla Lepcha, Diksha Sharma, Tsesang Dong, Pratik Sartak, Subnail Gurung and Reewa Vani adjudged the promising players of the championship. Likewise, Drishana Sharma and Joseph Pradhan were awarded with the Best & Emerging Players of the Championship. All these eight players are below the age of 10 years.
The four-day long championship was organised by Sikkim Table Tennis Association [STTA] from 07 September. A total of 151 players had participated in 18 categories in the championship. Chairman STDC Lukendra Rasaily was present as the chief guest of the valedictory function, who was accompanied by president BB Subba and other executive members of STTA.
The chief guest handed over trophies and certificates to its winners. In his address, the chief guest Mr Rasaily congratulated all participants for actively taking part in the championship. He said win or loss is a part of the competition but to participate was more important. He encouraged young players to continue with their hard work and practice to excel in their talent to play national and international arenas in near future. Mr Rasaily suggested STTA to promote club culture to bring out more players in coming days.
STTA general secretary Lomden Bhutia mentioned that 151 players from six districts had participated in this four-day long championship. He said this championship was the annual event of the association to provide wider platform and exposure especially to you budding players of the State. He mentioned the association has been sending State Ranking players to the regional and national championships at different parts of the country. He further added that the association has also been working for the further development and promotion of Table Tennis through different activities.
