BIKASH CHETTRI, Namchi 05 Feb:
PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School Namchi has been honored with the National Green Schools Award by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) during the Green Carnival and Green Schools Award ceremony held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on February 4, 2025.
The award, which includes a green school certificate, was presented by CSE Director-General Sunita Narain. It was received on behalf of the school by Green Teacher KS Rai along with students Prateek Adhikari and Aditya Kumar, who are members of the Green School Audit Team.
The Green Carnival and Green Award Ceremony is an annual event organized by the Centre for Science and Environment, bringing together young environmentalists from various schools nationwide. This year’s event recognized schools that earned a Green designation following a comprehensive Green Schools Audit conducted from July to December.
According to CSE’s report, over 10,000 schools submitted their Green School Audit reports, with only 150 schools achieving Green School status for the 2024-25 academic year. Remarkably, PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School Namchi is the sole institution from the entire northeast region to be recognized as one of the top 100 green schools in the country.
This achievement is the result of a decade of dedicated efforts by the school’s Eco-Club members. Through years of Green School Audits, the institution has learned that being a green school extends beyond aesthetics; it involves implementing sustainable practices that enhance air, land, water, energy, food, and waste management.
