SUMMIT REPORT, Gangtok 10 Feb:
The All Sikkimese Bhutia Association has registered solidarity with the Khas community which was recently targeted with insensitive remarks in a Facebook post by one Samson Tamang.
An ASBA press communique issued by the organisation’s general secretary, Jorgay Namka, underlines that in Sikkim, “different communities have co-existed and lived for generations cohesively, in complete peace and harmony and one NUT, for whatever reason/ objective is not going to change this.”
He adds: “The Bhutia community of Sikkim who have always stood by other communities on this day stand with our brothers and sisters of the KHAS community.”
The association has also requested the authorities in Sikkim and West Bengal to take all necessary steps, arrest and punish the accused in the case, Samson Tamang, whom the association has tagged as an antisocial element.
