The College of Horticulture hosted a Farmer-Scientist Interaction and awareness programme on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act (PPV & FRA)” at its Bermiok campus today, a press release informs.
The session had DR Chaudhury, Joint Registrar, PPV & FRA, New Delhi, as chief guest, accompanied by experts, including Dr AK Pandey, Dean CoH, Dr Ramgopal Devadas, Head ICAR NEH Region, Sikkim, and others, the release adds.
Key discussions revolved around the importance of plant variety registration, legal protection, and financial incentives available to farmers under the Act, it is informed, with experts urging farmers to register their varieties to secure intellectual property rights and access government benefits.
