SONU TAMANG, Gangtok 26 Mar:
Gangtok Municipal Corporation began its annual inspection of trade licences today with GMC Commissioner Ram Bahadur Bhandari leading officials on an inspection covering shops from MG Marg to Lal Bazaar.
The inspection, which officials inform is a routine process, gathers significance in light of recent announcements by the Urban Development Minister warning against subletting of trade licences.
GMC has assigned four teams to carry out the inspection, a process which is expected to take around six months to complete.
As per an office order, Senior Bazar Officer Bishu Thapa is in charge of inspection for MG Marg, Lal Market, Tibet Road, and DPH; Bazar Inspector Karuna Rai will oversee Arithang, Deorali, Chandmari, and Tathangchen; AMC Meena Kr Pradhan will handle Sichey, Burtuk, Bojoghari, Bye Pass, and Lingding; and Joint Municipal Commissioner, Pema Wangchuk Bhutia will manage Ranipool, Zero Point, Amdogolai, Entel, Tadong, and Development Area.
As per the office order, inspections will be conducted on a daily basis, during which they will issue verification slips to trade license holders after physical verification.
