SUMMIT REPORT, Jorethang 08 Jan: Preparations for Maghey Mela are underway full swing across Jorethang, with venues receiving final touches- Jorethang Football Stadium, the Rangeet riverbank which will host the Mini-Goa experience, movie screenings at Jorethang Community Hall, Bangey Bazaar near Jorethang Thana, Mini Mela at the riverbank, traditional stalls behind the stadium, and fete stalls all over town. Helicopter joyrides will take off from Assangthang, covering Samdruptse, Solophok and Buddha Park.
Organisers inform that ‘Mini Goa’ will offer boating, outdoor camping and food stalls.
Chief Coordinator, Pavitra Manav, stated that all the programmes are scheduled on the directions of Chief Minister PS Tamang.
“It is Sikkim Government’s plan to attract as many tourists as possible for the event,” Mr Manav said.
Maghey Mela at Jorethang will feature three football tournaments this year – inter-constituency, district-level women’s knockout tournament, and the 10th All India Chief Minister’s Football Tournament.
Mr Manav added that the Chief Minister has also directed that Sandhya Aarti be offered at the Rangeet riverside.
From 24-hour stalls, to traditional food markets, Maghey Mela at Jorethang is expected to offer a delectable fusion of the traditional and the modern this year.
