GANGTOK, 05 Feb: The renovated State Sports Academy (SSA) at Paljor Stadium complex was inaugurated by Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Raju Basnet on Wednesday. The academy is ready to welcome 30 promising young footballers after a four-year hiatus.
Following the formal inauguration, the Minister, accompanied by Secretary MT Sherpa, Chief Engineer Milan Kumari Pradhan, and other officials, inspected the academy’s upgraded facilities.
Originally established in 2005, the SSA was temporarily suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent operation of the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence. In response to the Chief Minister’s directive, the academy is set to resume operations, reaffirming its status as a powerhouse for producing talented footballers in Sikkim.
In a statement to the media, the Minister highlighted the abundance of sporting talent in Sikkim and emphasized that the new facilities would nurture more skilled athletes, enabling them to compete at national and international levels.
