Gyalshing,December 16(IPR):In successful conclusion of the three day’s workshop on Stone Carving, a valedictory ceremony was held at the Zilla Bhawan complex, on 15th December. The event was graced by Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, District Collector, along with SDM Dentam Shri NK Karki and officials of the Gyalshing District Administration.
The workshop, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the district, that marked a significant step to equip young people with essential life skills extending beyond the classroom to emulate time management, leadership, cultural preservation, teamwork and emotional intelligence, saw enthusiastic participation from local youth and students of colleges and schools. During the ceremony, the participants shared their experiences, expressing gratitude to the District Collector for providing them with this unique opportunity. They committed to honing their skills further and exploring ways to carry forward the art of stone carving among peers and youth groups sustainably.
The trainers, who had been invited from Ladakh, also shared their insights, highlighting the passion and dedication exhibited by the participants, and also They expressed their appreciation to the District Administration for bringing them to Gyalshing and enabling them to teach a vanishing art deeply cherished and respected. Letters of appreciation were handed over to the two trainers.
In her closing remarks, the DC emphasized on the importance of taking the skills acquired during the workshop seriously, envisioning it as a potential entrepreneurship avenue under flagship programs like Make in India, Start-Up India, and PM Vishwakarma, PMEGP etc. She encouraged the participants to inspire and train their peers in stone carving, turning it into a community-driven initiative.
The DC also linked such skill-based activities to social causes, noting that engagement in creative pursuits can play a role in preventing substance abuse. She highlighted the district’s commitment to the Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan and urged the participants to contribute to this movement by promoting constructive engagement among youth.
The Stone Carving Workshop stands as a testament to the Gyalshing District Administration’s dedication to fostering skills, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening cultural heritage while addressing critical social issues.
